Probe Launched into Damage to Vesak Lantern at Jaffna University

Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa says police and intelligence agencies have launched investigations into the damage caused to a Vesak lantern constructed by Tamil students at the University of Jaffna.
He made the remarks while responding to a question at the Cabinet media briefing held on June 2.
The Minister said that no official report had yet been submitted by the police. However, based on information available through social media, the lantern had reportedly been built with considerable dedication by Tamil students representing the Jaffna University Students’ Union.
“Police and intelligence agencies are investigating from multiple angles to determine whether this was a deliberate act aimed at undermining an important effort towards reconciliation,” he said.
He added that further details would be released once an official investigation report became available.
