Chaos in Dhaka as Hindus hold massive protest
21-Jun-2026.
Massive protests erupted in Dhaka, Bangladesh, after radical Islamists allegedly desecrated a picture of Lord Ram, opposing the construction of an 81-foot statue in Rangpur. Construction was halted following threats from Islamist groups. Thousands of Hindus demanded arrests and vowed further protests.
The statue, part of a temple complex dedicated to Hindu deities, symbolized minority rights concerns in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. Despite official calls for religious harmony, communal violence has increased, highlighting ongoing tensions faced by the Hindu minority, which comprises 8% of the population.
