Trump warns Israel against Lebanon attacks
16-Jun-2026.
US President Donald Trump expressed disappointment over Israel's latest strike on Beirut, saying the attack came at a sensitive moment when negotiations with Iran were nearing a potential breakthrough.
Trump said Israel has the right to defend itself against threats, but argued that the incident it was responding to was minor and did not result in any casualties. He warned that such actions risk undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a broader peace agreement in the region.
Emphasising that a deal with Iran was close, Trump called on all sides to exercise restraint. He urged Israel to refrain from carrying out further strikes in Lebanon and also called on Hezbollah and other groups to halt attacks against Israel. According to Trump, the region may be on the verge of a significant peace breakthrough, and he appealed to all parties not to jeopardise the opportunity.
