The Caspian Sea, the world’s largest saltwater lake, is shrinking at an alarming pace, posing severe risks to trade, human activities, and marine ecosystems.

Azerbaijan has raised concerns over disruptions to oil shipments, port operations, and the growing damage to marine life.

Sea levels have fallen by 0.93 metres in the past five years, 1.5 metres in the last decade, and 2.5 metres over the past 30 years. Currently, the decline is estimated at 20 to 30 centimetres per year, raising fears of long-term ecological and economic impacts.
