Metro Vancouver bus drivers, transit workers accept contract, avoid strike: union

The union representing Metro Vancouver bus drivers and other transit workers says members voted Monday to ratify a deal with the Coast Mountain Bus Company.

The ratification votes by members of Unifor Locals 11 and 2200 came after months of bargaining, and averts a strike set for this week that would have halted bus and SeaBus service across Metro Vancouver.

Unifor says 68 per cent of members who cast ballots voted to accept the deal to address sticking points, such as running time, recovery time and electronic service sheets.

It says if either side fails to follow terms outlined in a letter of understanding, the matter is to go before a mediator.
