Kingston wildfire grows

A regional state of emergency was declared Saturday for the Bay De Verde peninsula in Newfoundland and Labrador, from Bristol's Hope to Whiteway. 

The province said "extremely volatile" weather on August 9 made fire suppression efforts challenging. On Sunday, the province's forestry department said weather remains extremely volatile, with "30 km/hr southwest winds and forecasted gusts of 50 km/hr."

After a day of high winds and hot temperatures, the Kingston fire has grown to just over 4,895 hectares.
