Trump gives ultimatum to European allies to provide support to secure Hormuz
10-Apr-2026.
The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran has opened a narrow window for diplomacy. Now Washington is pressing its European allies to move fast on securing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy routes. With global oil flows disrupted and prices under pressure, Donald Trump’s administration has made it clear that declarations of support are no longer enough.
The United States has asked European partners to present detailed plans within days on how they intend to help secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a Nato spokesperson confirmed to Reuters. The request was raised during high-level discussions at the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department, including Trump’s meeting with Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
Trump took aim at Nato and other allies in a sharply worded post on Truth Social, saying they fail to understand issues unless pressure is applied.
