Pope Leo XIV, US Cardinal Robert Prevost, on May 11 welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan following three days of military conflict after India launched Operation Sindoor strikes against terror infrastructure inside Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

Pope Leo said he was glad to hear of the truce and hoped negotiations would lead to a lasting accord between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

He also appealed to the world's other major powers for "no more war" in his first Sunday message to crowds in St Peter's Square since his election as the 267th Pope.
