Two Kumki elephants to be deployed in Andhra to tackle wild elephant menace
23-Jul-2026.
Andhra Pradesh is deploying two trained Kumki elephants, Jayant and Abhimanyu, to the Guchimi camp to address escalating human-elephant conflicts in border villages near Odisha. Directed by Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, the elephants have extensive experience in managing wildlife conflicts.
Habitat loss and resource shortages have driven wild herds into populated areas, causing crop damage and safety threats. The state is also engaging Odisha for long-term solutions and considering acquiring more trained elephants to mitigate the issue.
