Recruitment to Address Estate School Teacher Vacancies – Prime Minister

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said that additional recruitment to the teaching service will be undertaken to address vacancies in estate schools.
Speaking at a special discussion held at Parliament on 19 February, she stated that estate schools would be developed in coordination with district development committees.
The meeting addressed infrastructure, sanitation, safety, land ownership of schools, and teacher and principal vacancies.
Attention was also drawn to challenges faced by Grade 13 students in science and mathematics and language barriers in vocational education pathways.
The Prime Minister announced plans to recruit 23,000 teachers in the future and to conduct annual recruitment to gradually fill vacancies.
