President decides to seek pardon for Anojan

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed officials to expedite measures and maintain continuous discussions regarding Sivarasa Anojan, a Sri Lankan national sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia.

The President has closely reviewed the measures taken so far in relation to Anojan, possible future diplomatic and legal measures, and ongoing coordination with Saudi Arabian authorities concerning the case. He has instructed officials to expedite the relevant action and continue consultations.

A special discussion chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was held at the Presidential Secretariat on September 21, 2026, to examine possible future measures concerning Sivarasa Anojan, the Sri Lankan youth sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia.

During the discussion, the President reviewed the measures taken so far in relation to Anojan and discussed possible future diplomatic and legal steps. He also examined the ongoing coordination with Saudi Arabian authorities regarding the case.
