Rasik Chandra Mondal, a 105-year-old convicted for murdering his brother in 1988, was granted permanent release by the Supreme Court due to his advanced age and health. Originally sentenced to life imprisonment in 1994 and having served 30 years,

Mondal's appeals were dismissed by lower courts. In 2024, the Supreme Court granted interim bail, later making it final and waiving the remaining sentence. The court expressed surprise at his longevity and capacity to participate legally, concluding the case.
