Sabarimala plea should have been thrown in dustbin: CJI
06-May-2026.
The nine-judge Supreme Court bench reviewing its 2018 verdict permitting women aged 10-50 to enter Kerala's Sabarimala temple criticized the misuse of Public Interest Litigations.
The bench questioned the locus standi of the Indian Young Lawyers Association, led by a Muslim man, for filing the PIL and rebuked the former Chief Justice for entertaining it.
The court emphasized Public Interest Litigations are being exploited for personal or political gains instead of public interest, highlighting the complexity of intervening in religious practices amid societal evolution.
