Investigation against Mahindananda Aluthgamage continues

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on August 25, 2026, that investigations are continuing against former Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and other suspects arrested and produced before court over allegations that the country imported 20,000 metric tonnes of substandard organic fertiliser from a Chinese company during the administration of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, causing a loss of more than US$6.7 million to the Government.

The case was taken up yesterday before Colombo Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama. Former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who is currently serving a prison sentence in connection with another case, was produced before court.

CIABOC officials appearing before court informed the Magistrate that investigations into the incident were still underway. Accordingly, a request was made for a date to be fixed to enable the Commission to complete the investigations and submit a report to court.

Having considered the submissions, the Magistrate ordered that the case be adjourned until December 4 and directed CIABOC to submit a report on the progress of the investigations on that date.

It is noteworthy that CIABOC had filed the case against former Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage over allegations that the importation of 20,000 metric tonnes of substandard organic fertiliser from a Chinese company during the administration of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had caused a loss of more than US$6.7 million to the Government.
