Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Visit Sri Lanka

Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka on a three-day official visit from September 8 to 10, the Indian Ministry of Defence said.

His visit comes as India and Sri Lanka continue efforts to further strengthen maritime and defence cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.

According to a statement issued by the Indian Ministry of Defence, Rajnath Singh will hold discussions with Sri Lankan leaders on a range of issues during his visit and will also meet members of the Indian community in Colombo.

He will lead a high-level delegation comprising senior officials from the Indian Ministry of Defence and Ministry of External Affairs.

The visit is expected to be significant in further strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and India, particularly in the areas of maritime security and defence cooperation.

The Indian side said relations between the two countries, which are based on longstanding civilisational ties, have expanded into several areas, including regional security, defence, the economy and trade.

India also highlighted the assistance it provided during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis, as well as the support extended following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah in 2025, as examples of cooperation under its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.
