The Court of Appeal has postponed further consideration of the writ petition filed by former Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne, challenging his removal from office and naming the Speaker as a respondent, until November 17.

The order was issued after President's Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena, appearing for the petitioner on November 6, 2026, concluded his oral submissions.

Chaminda Kularatne, who served as Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament, had earlier been suspended by the Speaker on the basis of certain administrative grounds and allegations.

Challenging the suspension as unlawful and in violation of his fundamental rights, Kularatne filed the writ petition before the Court of Appeal, seeking to have the order quashed.

The Speaker and senior officials of the Parliamentary Staff have been named as respondents in the case. The petitioner has also sought an interim order setting aside the suspension and reinstating him in his former position.
