The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has informed the Kotte Magistrate’s Court that statements made to the media by Dilith Jayaweera, Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila, Sugeshwara Bandara, Mahinda Pathirana, and Asanga Navaratne are allegedly contemptuous of court proceedings related to the ongoing Easter Sunday terror attack investigations.

The CID made this submission yesterday upon filing a motion before Magistrate Pasan Amarasekera.

Authorities informed court that investigations into the matter are already underway, and that the six individuals named are allegedly attempting to incite public opposition by making statements regarding the probe.

A 14-page report connected to the investigation was also submitted to court. Officials further stated that actions are being taken over allegations of attempts to mislead investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks. It was also revealed that former State Intelligence Service Chief Suresh Salley, named as the third suspect in the case, has reportedly abstained from food since the night of the 5th of this month.
