9-year-old boy sexually assaulted

A 17-year-old boy was arrested for sexually assaulting and murdering a nine-year-old in Pudukkottai district. The victim, a Class 4 student and son of a daily wage worker, was found dead near a pond with injuries and missing trousers. 

Initially treated as a suspicious death, police added murder and child protection charges after investigation. 

The suspect confessed to attempting sexual advances and strangling the boy when resisted. The minor was placed in a juvenile detention center.
