‘Kehelbaddara Padme’ remanded until September 17

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered that Koralegamage Mandinu Padmasiri Perera, alias ‘Kehelbaddara Padme’, identified as a large-scale drug trafficker and a key figure in the underworld, be further remanded until September 17.

Padme had been taken into the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and detained for questioning.

The order was issued when the case was taken up before Colombo Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama on September 3.

The suspect was produced before the court via Zoom from the Boossa Prison for the hearing.

Investigating officers requested that the suspect be further remanded as investigations into the incident are still in progress.

The Magistrate also directed the Criminal Investigation Department to refer cases pending against the suspect before other courts to the respective courts, while referring only the case filed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the case relating to the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa to the present court.

After considering the evidence presented by the Criminal Investigation officers, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be further remanded until September 17.
