Google asks employees to leave voluntarily, offers severance packages in 5 countries

Google is offering voluntary exit packages to employees in five countries to control spending and prioritize investment in AI, excluding key units like DeepMind and Google Cloud. 

The program started earlier in 2025 and expanded in June, with employees in Switzerland already departing. 

The severance provides one month's salary per year of service, capped at 12 months. 

Meanwhile, Microsoft is also implementing voluntary buyouts for eligible employees as both tech giants adjust their workforce amid rising AI investments.
