First DNA Report Received in Case Against Ven. Hemarathana Thera

The first DNA analysis report has been received in the case involving former Atamasthana Chief Incumbent Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera, who has been named as a suspect in the alleged abuse of a 15-year-old girl, the Nittambuwa Police informed the court.
The case was taken up before Anuradhapura Magistrate Siyapath Sasindu Wickramaratne on June 26.
Responding to a query from the Magistrate, Chief Inspector P.M. Anura Gunawardena said the second DNA report is expected shortly.
Appearing for the Attorney General's Department, Senior State Counsel Keshani Wijesinghe said the Department is closely monitoring the police investigation and directly supervising its progress.
Meanwhile, Inoka Ranasinghe, Chairperson of the National Child Protection Authority and a retired High Court Judge, who appeared on behalf of the victim, informed the court that the Authority is closely monitoring the investigation. She also requested a copy of the first DNA report.
