Pakistan doesn't have press freedom: Vance
21-Jun-2026.
Pakistan faced embarrassment over the US-Iran peace deal it helped broker, as US Vice President JD Vance criticized Pakistan's lack of press freedom for delaying the agreement's release. The MoU, signed digitally by US President Trump and Iran's President, contradicted Pakistan's announced Switzerland signing ceremony.
The deal includes Iran diluting enriched uranium for economic relief, differing from the Obama-era JCPOA. Despite a $300 billion reconstruction plan, no US funds will flow to Iran. Pakistan's press restrictions and political missteps were exposed, deepening its diplomatic humiliation.
