MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam has urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay to support the demand for an international criminal investigation into the genocide of Eelam Tamils, stating that such support would strengthen the Tamil struggle for justice and earn him a lasting place in the hearts of Eelam Tamils worldwide.

This was stated in a letter sent by the his party to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on behalf of the Eelam Tamil people.

In the letter, his party congratulated Vijay on achieving a major victory in his first attempt at the Tamil Nadu Assembly election and assuming office as Chief Minister. While acknowledging the heavy responsibilities of governance, the party requested that he give attention to their appeal.

The letter noted that since 2009, Eelam Tamils have annually commemorated May 18 as "Mullivaikkal Genocide Remembrance Day," gathering in large numbers in Mullivaikkal to remember those who perished.

It further recalled that in 2013, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, with the support of all parties represented at the time, passed a resolution declaring that genocide had been committed against Eelam Tamils and calling for an international criminal investigation.

The letter stated that although Vijay's party did not exist at that time, it has now emerged and secured a major electoral victory, leading to his appointment as Chief Minister.

His party urged that, under his leadership, a resolution similar to the 2013 Assembly resolution be passed during the first sitting of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly

scheduled for this month, to demonstrate continuity and firmness in Tamil Nadu's stance on the Eelam Tamil issue.

The letter concluded by stating that such a step would strengthen the Eelam Tamil demand for international justice and secure Chief Minister Vijay an enduring place in the hearts of Tamils living across the world, while once again extending heartfelt congratulations.
