The Election Commission has identified the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) as a political party facing internal disputes.

The Commission has warned key members of the party that failure to resolve the internal conflict could result in the party losing its opportunity to submit nominations for an election.

In this connection, key representatives of the party were summoned before the Election Commission on November 6. SLFP members Dayasiri Jayasekara, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Duminda Dissanayake attended the meeting.

A political party facing internal disputes cannot submit nominations for an upcoming election. If such a party seeks to contest an election, its representatives must appear before the Election Commission and reach an agreement on resolving the dispute.

The Commission further stated that failure to settle the dispute could result in the party losing its opportunity to submit nominations for the relevant election.

The Commission also clarified that the same procedure would be followed in the case of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party going forward.
