Mumbai Airport shifts 12 international airlines to Navi Mumbai from March 2027

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport plans to redevelop Terminal 1, shifting 12 international and several domestic airlines to Navi Mumbai International Airport by March 2027.
This transition enables phased reconstruction of the ageing terminal to raise capacity from 15 to 20 million passengers annually. Construction starts January 2027, targeting completion by March 2029, with expanded facilities and improved infrastructure.
Structural concerns from audits prompted redevelopment, ensuring safety and enhanced passenger handling while preserving airlines' slot allocations.
