The District of Tofino is hoping the B.C. government will reconsider an ambitious hospital replacement plan, after the Ministry of Infrastructure rejected the proposal shortly before Christmas.

The rejection came despite what Tofino Mayor Dan Law says is a clear need in the community.

The proposed plan sought to replace the current hospital — which was built in 1954 to serve a region of 400 — with a modern “campus of care” that would increase services available to Vancouver Island’s west coast region.
