The United States and Canada failed to reach a trade agreement after three days of negotiations, leading the US to impose 50% tariffs on $28 billion worth of Canadian imports starting August 22.

Canada suspended talks and announced dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs to protect its economy.

Disagreements centered on sectors like automobiles, steel, aluminum, and lumber.

These new tariffs add to existing trade tensions and could hamper Canada's economic recovery and ongoing negotiations under the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
