Man sentenced to 21 years for fentanyl-related death of 15-year-old girl

A 30-year-old man from Bonita, California, was sentenced to over 21 years in prison in the death of a 15-year-old girl. Prosecutors claim that he gave the teen girl fentanyl in exchange for sex.

As per court documents, the culprit, Marcus Ray Chavez, provided the girl with counterfeit "M30" pills, knowing it contained fentanyl on at least four occasions between September and November 2022. He gave this as a way to have sexual intercourse with the girl.

Chavez pleaded guilty to federal charges of sex trafficking of a minor and distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. He was sentenced to 262 months in prison.
