Arrest Warrants Issued Against Aravinda de Silva and His Wife

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has issued arrest warrants against former cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his wife, Priyanka Anushka Wijenayake.
The order was issued by Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara when the case was taken up for hearing on September 16.
The case relates to an alleged controversial bribery transaction connected to the procurement of Airbus aircraft, in which former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena and his wife had been named as suspects. Chandrasena, who had been arrested and subsequently released on bail, later died under mysterious circumstances.
The case was taken up for hearing yesterday when the Magistrate issued the above order.
Kapila Chandrasena, who had been named as a suspect in connection with the alleged receipt of a US$2 million bribe during the procurement of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines in 2013, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the residence of former cricketer Aravinda de Silva in the Kollupitiya area on the morning of May 8 this year.
Nayomali Wijenayake, who was arrested in connection with the above case, reportedly fled the country after being released on bail. The Fort Magistrate’s Court has already issued an open warrant against her.
Meanwhile, former cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his wife, Priyanka Anushka Wijenayake, had appeared as sureties for the suspect when bail was granted.
