President to Meet ITAK MPs Tomorrow

A letter has been sent by Jaffna District Member of Parliament Sivagnanam Shritharan of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi requesting a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss solutions to the day-to-day problems faced by Tamil people in the North and East.

Following the request, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is reportedly scheduled to meet the Members of Parliament of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi on September 26.

In his letter, Shritharan had earlier stated that the ITAK Parliamentarians wished to meet the President urgently in person to discuss the day-to-day issues faced by people in the North and East.

He had requested that, considering the matter to be urgent, an opportunity be provided to meet and discuss the issues directly during parliamentary sitting days.

The letter states that the discussions are expected to focus on land rights issues, including Valikamam North in Jaffna, covering Vasavilan, Palaly, Mayiliddy and Thayiddy; the Lower Malwathu Oya area in Vavuniya; Sinhala settlement in certain areas; Kepapulavu in Mullaitivu; and Mayilathamadu and Madhavanai in Batticaloa.

Attention is also expected to be drawn to recent activities carried out by the Department of Archaeology at sites and residential areas, including historically significant Saiva places of worship such as Vedukkunaari Malai and Kurundoor Malai, as well as matters relating to the excavation of the Chemmani mass grave.

The case of Sivarasa Anojan, who has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia, is also expected to be discussed.
