Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara says the Government does not require advice from those who were responsible for the country’s past decline.

He made the remarks while addressing the media following the launch of the Praja Shakthi programme in Colombo on June 2.

“Our National People’s Power Government seeks advice from knowledgeable and informed members of society and is systematically pursuing the task of rebuilding the country through such engagement,” he said.

Responding to criticism from the Opposition regarding fuel and essential commodity price increases, Gunasekara said such concerns were politically motivated rather than genuine.

“These are the same people who drove the country into crisis, emptied the State coffers, and created a situation where even fuel shipments hesitated to arrive in Sri Lanka,” he said.

He recalled that the public had taken to the streets in protest against the mismanagement of previous administrations.

“Today, both dollars and rupees are available in the Treasury. However, due to the global energy crisis and ongoing conflicts around the world, we are compelled to make difficult decisions. The Government is working to manage these challenges responsibly,” he added.
