NIA Court sentences 4 to life for 2016 murder of Hindu Munnani leader Sasikumar

A Special Court in Chennai sentenced four Popular Front of India (PFI) members to life imprisonment for the 2016 murder of Hindu Munnani spokesperson C Sasikumar in Coimbatore. 

The killing triggered communal violence across six districts. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which took over the case in 2018, established a conspiracy behind the killing and conducted a trial examining 75 witnesses. 

The PFI, banned in 2022 for alleged terror links, saw its first conviction through this verdict, while one accused was acquitted and is subject to appeal.
