The Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court has ordered former Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana, Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera, to provide a blood sample for DNA testing on June 16 in connection with a case involving the alleged abuse of a 15-year-old girl.

The order was issued by the court on June 12 during proceedings before Magistrate Siyabath Sasindu Wickramaratne.

The court further directed that, once the blood sample is obtained, the Government Analyst’s Department should conduct the necessary DNA examination and submit a report to the court.

Police informed the court that an item of clothing believed to be stained with blood and recovered from a location where it had allegedly been buried by the victim had already been sent to the Government Analyst for examination.

According to investigators, DNA testing has confirmed the presence of the girl’s genetic material on the garment. Police submitted that a blood sample from the suspect was required in order to determine whether his DNA matches any biological material recovered from the clothing.

The court accepted the request and ordered Ven. Hemarathana Thera to provide the necessary blood sample at the Government Analyst’s Department on 16 June. The Government Analyst was also directed to conduct the relevant examinations and submit the findings to court.
