Bangladesh looks to India for wheat

Bangladesh has resumed wheat imports from India in 2026 after a four-year halt caused by India's 2022 export restrictions amid a heatwave and Russia-Ukraine war disruptions. Rising rice prices and reduced Black Sea wheat shipments have increased Bangladesh's wheat demand. 

India's record 2025-26 harvest and lifted export ban offer affordable, nearby supplies, meeting Bangladesh's need for over 7 million tonnes annually. Indian wheat imports reduce reliance on costlier alternatives from Australia, US, and Canada amid ongoing global supply challenges.
