Minister Vijitha Herath has proposed that China provide assistance to install electric vehicle charging stations across Sri Lanka, as the country shows increasing interest in importing electric vehicles from China and other global markets.

The Minister stated that this initiative would be particularly important as the Sri Lankan government plans to import a larger number of electric buses in the future.

He made the proposal during a discussion with the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Chinese Ambassador accepted the proposal and stated that he would convey it to the Chinese government.

The Minister also expressed expectations for swift Chinese assistance in rehabilitating railway tracks and bridges damaged by recent disasters. The Ambassador agreed to immediately bring this request to the attention of the Chinese government.

Furthermore, the Ambassador stated that China expects to assess disaster-related damages caused by Cyclone Titwa and to discuss and announce potential assistance from various Chinese government sectors, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment.
