Special Probe Ordered into Tense Incident Between Police and Air Force Personnel in Kalpitiya

The Sri Lanka Air Force has launched a special investigation into a tense incident involving a police officer, two civilians and Air Force personnel at a firing range in Kalpitiya, Puttalam.

The incident reportedly occurred on June 17 while explosive ordnance disposal training was underway at the Air Force facility. Three individuals allegedly entered the protected area without prior permission or notification.

Seven Air Force personnel on duty, along with a Special Task Force officer, questioned the individuals. During the inquiry, it was confirmed that one of the visitors was a police officer while the other two were civilians. A verbal confrontation subsequently arose between the two parties.

The Air Force stated that the area is designated as a high-risk zone during explosive disposal training exercises and that public access is prohibited for safety reasons.

Air Force Commander has appointed a special inquiry committee to conduct a comprehensive investigation and submit a report on the incident.
