Request to Identify Human Remains Found in Kokku Thoduvai Mass Grave

Saththaranee Tharpan, the executing officer of the Missing Persons Office, has requested assistance in identifying the human remains found in the Kokkuthoduvai mass grave in Mullaitivu district.

The investigation (Case No: AR/804/23) is ongoing before the Mullaitivu magistrate. Preliminary archaeological analysis suggests the grave dates between 1994 and 1996.

The grave is part of the Missing Persons Office’s extensive efforts to locate missing and forcibly disappeared individuals.

The Missing Persons Office is overseeing the investigation under the legal provisions of the 2016 Missing Persons Act.

The Mullaitivu magistrate has requested the Missing Persons Office to assist in identifying the remains.

The office believes the public both within Sri Lanka and abroad may hold critical information regarding the case.

The public can provide information and identification details related to the human remains, including clothing, distinguishing marks, and injuries.

Based on provided information, trained officers will interview potential relatives and witnesses, ensuring confidentiality and protection under the law.

Information can be submitted between August 8 and September 4 at designated offices in Rajagiriya, Kottai Mattharai, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Mannar, and Kilinochchi, or by telephone at the listed numbers.
