Reduce Duty to 15% Through Further Talks: Sajith

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa welcomed the reduction of the U.S. safeguard duty to 20% but urged the government to aim for a further cut to 15% to benefit exporters.

In a post on his official X platform, he noted that while the rate has been reduced to 20%, it still places Sri Lanka alongside countries like Vietnam and Bangladesh, whereas India pays 25%.

He called for a trade and economic expert committee to lead future negotiations.
