Provincial Council Election Bill Discussion Postponed to Next Week

A special meeting initially scheduled on August 6 to discuss provincial council election law amendments and Kalmunai divisional secretariat affairs was postponed to next week following a request from Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP Ira. Sanniyan.

Sanniyan recently submitted a private member’s bill on provincial council election amendments to Parliament. 

As the content overlaps with bills he previously submitted in 2019 and 2023, he argued no further review was necessary, urging the government to implement it immediately.

During a recent ministerial advisory committee meeting on provincial councils, Sanniyan indicated no opposition to the bill and requested prompt approval. 

Consequently, a meeting involving Minister Santhan Aberathna and relevant parliamentary members and party secretaries was planned but postponed due to scheduling conflicts.
