President Anura Kumara Dissanayake assured Parliament that the government is on the right path to stabilizing the economy and will not allow conspiracies to derail its progress. He stated that the government welcomes criticism and is open to political engagement, but warned against actions that destabilize the economy.

During the August 7, adjournment debate in Parliament, the President warned that any attempts to sabotage the country's economic recovery through political conspiracies would be defeated, with strong action taken against those responsible.

He addressed concerns about trade agreements with the U.S., noting that while no final deal has been signed, discussions have led to potential tax reductions from 44% to 20% on imported Sri Lankan goods. These developments, he said, are the result of inclusive dialogue with stakeholders.

Regarding challenges, the President identified three external threats: U.S. taxation, IMF reviews, and the expiration of the GSP+ trade concession in 2027. He affirmed that negotiations are ongoing and progress has been made, including commitments to reforms like the repeal of draconian laws and proper investigations into past crimes.

He assured the public that the government has maintained exchange rate stability, leading to reduced inflation and improved export performance. He cited January–June 2025 as the most successful export period in Sri Lankan history and noted a 10% increase in tourism compared to the same period last year.

The President also addressed rumors about restricted vehicle imports, confirming that imports would not be limited and that revenue bonds worth $1.5 to $1.8 billion are expected by December 2025.

He defended the ambitious revenue target of LKR 4.5 trillion, emphasizing improvements in revenue collection and reforms in tax departments. He stated that 200 top tax evaders and 50 loan defaulters—many of them politicians—will face legal action.

He concluded by stating that conspiracies based on economic instability would not topple the government. He reminded critics that only elections can change governments, and pledged continued progress.
