21-May-2026.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that separatism will not be allowed under any circumstance during his administration.
Speaking at the 15th National War Heroes’ Day commemoration on May 19, he said the government’s objective is to ensure that war never returns to the country and that development can only be achieved through peace.
He paid tribute to fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for national unity and peace, and expressed gratitude to their families.
He said Sri Lanka must move beyond its past and build a united nation, ensuring equal application of the law for all citizens. He added that no country can be built through violence, bloodshed, or bombs, but only through peace.
He further stated that the military fought against separatism, not against any community, and emphasised that the government is committed to strengthening national unity and reconciliation while safeguarding rights and the rule of law.
