MP Selvam Adaikalanathan announced a protest titled "Our Land Our Right" on August 14 in Mannar against the construction of the second phase wind power towers and ilmenite sand mining, which threaten local livelihoods.

Speaking at his Mannar office on August 11, he said:
The protest will unite political representatives, local government officials, and activists from the North East region.
The protest, starting at 9 a.m. near Mannar Bazaar, sends a message to the south that no one can seize their land or people.
They fought and sacrificed with arms for their rights. Regardless of party lines, MPs, municipal, local council members, and urban councilors must participate.
The protest aims to protect their land and people and deliver a lesson to the south. He extended a broad invitation to all in the North East.
