Minister Anil Jayantha meets US Ambassador

Newly appointed US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer has stressed that foreign investment and trade are crucial to Sri Lanka's economic transformation and commended the government's efforts to reform the economy and maintain fiscal discipline.

Ambassador Meyer made these remarks during a meeting with Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Anil Jayantha Fernando at the Ministry of Finance on September 21.

The meeting included discussions on the importance of foreign investment and international trade in taking Sri Lanka beyond its current economic stabilisation and placing the country on a stronger development path.

Minister Dr Anil Jayantha said that Sri Lanka had successfully undertaken economic reforms following the economic crisis of 2022. He also outlined the measures being taken by the government to strengthen the economy and create an environment conducive to investment and growth.

The two sides exchanged views on attracting greater levels of foreign investment and expanding trade opportunities. Ambassador Meyer agreed to provide US support for Sri Lanka's efforts in these areas.

The Ambassador also expressed his satisfaction with the measures being taken to strengthen fiscal discipline and economic stability and attract investment.
