Minister Anil Jayantha meets Indonesian Human Resources Minister

Sri Lanka's Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr Anil Jayantha Fernando, who is currently on an official visit to Indonesia, held bilateral discussions with Indonesian Minister of Human Resources Prof. Yassierli at the Ministry of Human Resources in Jakarta.

The discussions focused on further strengthening the longstanding friendly bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia and achieving mutual benefits in the field of labour.

During the meeting, the current situation regarding the labour forces, working conditions, labour protection and social security programmes in the two countries was discussed in detail. The two sides also stressed the importance of sharing their respective experiences, knowledge and best practices in these areas.

The two countries further agreed to establish an institutional framework for expanding bilateral cooperation in the labour sector. The proposed framework is expected to strengthen links between institutions in the two countries, enhance people-to-people relations and provide a firm foundation for future joint initiatives.

In view of the increasing movement of workers between the two countries, priority was also given to ensuring the rights and safety of migrant workers. The two ministers stressed the need for closer coordination and joint action to prevent illegal activities such as human trafficking and violations of immigration laws.
