Immediately Repeal the Prevention of Terrorism Act: Amnesty International

Amnesty International has submitted its recommendations to the committee responsible for amending the Prevention of Terrorism Act, urging that the Act be immediately and completely repealed.

The Secretary of the Amnesty International on amending the Prevention of Terrorism Act has requested the public, including both domestic and international media, to send their observations, comments, and suggestions regarding the proposed amendment of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, specifically concerning Act No. 9 of 2024.

In the public notice issued by the Secretary of the committee, it has been requested that ideas and recommendations related to the amendment be sent either to the Secretary, Ministry of Justice and National Unity, No. 19, Sri Sankara Mawatha, Colombo 10, or via email to the designated email address provided.

Following the issuance of this notice, an official entry regarding this matter has been posted on the official website of the International Peace Commission’s South Asia Regional Office.

The entry states: “In response to the public notice issued by the Government of Sri Lanka requesting recommendations for the amendment of Act No. 9 of 2024, we have submitted our position, urging the immediate and complete repeal of the Act.”
