Hold Provincial Council Elections Immediately, Urges Tissa Attanayake

UNP National Organizer Tissa Attanayake said his party is ready to fully support the government if it decides to hold Provincial Council elections under the old system.

He urged the government to conduct the elections as soon as possible to restore democratic governance.

He criticized repeated delays, noting that the constitution requires these elections and that only a constitutional amendment—introduced but not passed—has halted them.

He stressed that Provincial Councils should be run by elected representatives, not governors appointed by the President.
