Credibility of Easter Sunday Investigations Questioned: MP Namal
13-Mar-2026.
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organiser and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa has questioned whether the credibility of the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday bomb attacks will be maintained.
He stated that planned political pressure had been used to create false narratives linking former State Intelligence Service Chief Major General Suresh Sallay to the attacks, while no proper investigations had been conducted against those who failed to carry out their duties at the time of the incident.
Rajapaksa made these remarks while addressing the media following an event held in Colombo on March 11.
He further stated that investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks should not be conducted targeting political opponents or in line with geopolitical agendas.
The current government came to power promising justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday attacks and their families.
However, based on the progress of the current investigations, serious questions arise as to whether that promise will be fulfilled and whether the credibility of the investigations will be preserved, he said.
Rajapaksa noted that he would never oppose fair, transparent and impartial investigations and pledged his full support for such credible inquiries.
He stressed that the true masterminds behind the brutal attacks must be identified and punished according to the law.
Referring to Major General Suresh Sallay, who is currently under detention, Rajapaksa described him as a respected military officer who played a significant role in the war against terrorism and made valuable contributions to national security.
He added that false narratives had been deliberately constructed over time linking Sallay to the Easter attacks through political pressure, while those who actually failed in their duties at the time of the attacks have not been subjected to such intense investigations.
