Australia Committed to Strengthening Engagement with Sri Lanka, Says High Commissioner

Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Matthew Duckworth has stated that Australia remains committed to maintaining cooperation and contributions aligned with the long-term objectives of the Sri Lankan Government.
The High Commissioner met Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva at the party headquarters on June 18.
Australian Deputy High Commissioner Ruth Baird and other senior officials of the High Commission were also present.
During the discussions, views were exchanged on the longstanding friendship between Sri Lanka and Australia, as well as the large Sri Lankan community residing in Australia.
The parties also discussed cooperation in the fields of agriculture and development.
The High Commissioner reiterated Australia’s commitment to continuing its cooperation and support in line with Sri Lanka’s long-term development goals.
He further noted that the Australian Government views positively the anti-corruption initiatives currently being implemented in Sri Lanka.
Tilvin Silva expressed gratitude for Australia’s assistance and the High Commission’s interventions during the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.
