Arundika Fernando gives statement to Central Criminal Investigation Bureau

Former State Minister Arundika Fernando, who was summoned to the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau to provide a statement in connection with the investigations into alleged large-scale drug trafficker Shiran Basik, left the bureau following lengthy questioning.

Officials of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau, who are conducting further investigations into individuals and information linked to the alleged drug trafficker, had summoned the former State Minister to record a statement from him.

Accordingly, Fernando appeared before the Criminal Investigation Bureau on September 3 and is reported to have given a lengthy statement in response to questions raised by investigators.

Meanwhile, former Mayor of the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council Dhanasiri Amaratunga was also summoned to the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau on Sept 1 and questioned in connection with the investigations concerning suspect Shiran Basik.

Further investigations into the matter are continuing under the direction of officers of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau.
