1,616 people in 10 districts affected by inclement weather with rain

A total of 1,616 people belonging to 458 families in 10 districts have been affected by the prevailing inclement weather with rain in the country, while one person has died.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) stated that 88 houses had been partially damaged due to disasters including landslides and minor flooding, while 94 people had been accommodated in temporary shelters.
The low-pressure area located over the Andaman Sea in the Bay of Bengal, to the northeast of the island, is expected to intensify further and develop into a depression within the next 24 hours.
While warnings have been issued that rainy weather will continue, yellow-level (initial-level) landslide warnings have been issued for Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts.
Red-level danger warnings have been issued for the following areas: Neluwa in Galle District; Walallawita in Kalutara District; Pasbage Korale in Kandy District; Dehiowita, Aranayake, Deraniyagala, Mawanella and Yatiyantota in Kegalle District; Kotmale-West, Kotmale-East, Ambagamuwa and Norwood in Nuwara Eliya District; and Ratnapura in Ratnapura District.
As water levels in the Kalu Ganga and Gin Ganga rivers have risen rapidly, the flood warning issued for riverbanks and adjoining areas has been extended until 1.00 p.m. today.
Similarly, as water levels in several major reservoirs have risen rapidly, one sluice gate of the Polpitiya Reservoir, three sluice gates of the Polgolla Reservoir and one sluice gate of the Kukule Ganga Reservoir were opened yesterday.

The Department of Meteorology has stated that the intensification of this system is not expected to have a direct impact on Sri Lanka. However, winds blowing towards the island are expected to cause the rainy weather currently prevailing in the south-western part of the country to continue.
